There’s more than meets the eye ~ All around the mountain
The truth is, you really can’t go wrong when selecting a vacation home in the Telluride area. Unforgettable joy will follow you to whatever neighborhood you may choose. The key is finding the one that best suits the activities you and your guests wish to pursue. And while most of the following communities are all well within 15 minutes of Mountain Village or the Town of Telluride, the communities are home to distinct properties that are only accentuated by their immediate surroundings.
The Town - Let’s start where it all began. Located in the valley within a box canyon, the historic mining Town of Telluride is a sight to behold. With the breathtaking San Sophia mountain range serving as your backdrop, this area is home to plenty of Victorian architecture to match its small-town charm. But don’t let those exteriors fool you. Most of them have undergone extensive interior remodeling to reflect modern-day times. Even better? At the end of the canyon lies the ever-popular Ajax peak, and in between lie a handful of lifts and the Gondola, which provides access up to Mountain Village.
Mountain Village - A more resort-like atmosphere greets you in Mountain Village. Think plenty of spacious, 5,000+ square-foot homes as well as cozy condos all up and down the mountain. Beginner skiers can take advantage of the tamer terrain below the core, while the more advanced should head up to the top. Most ski runs lead back to the Village Core and Chair 1 & 10 areas, though some adventurous terrain leads down into Town. In the warmer months, golfers marvel at the scenic 18-hole course in the area, because after all, your ball travels further at this elevation.
Mountain Village Core - The fire pits, live music, and other communal activities found in the core of Mountain Village are often likened to similar Coloradian-favorite Copper Mountain. Just steps from Chair 4 and the Gondola, you’ll find mostly upscale condos along with a myriad of shops and restaurants for all your aprés-ski entertainment.
Aldasoro - Fancy yourself a nature buff? This ranch-style neighborhood should be your target location. With the entire San Sophia Range as your background, this community is a perfect place from which to enjoy unbelievable views of town all the way to the Wilson Range. And with the airport nearby and just a 10 minute drive to get into Town, Aldasoro is not only accessible, but remote enough to host the elk migration year after year.
Ski Ranches - Also about 10 minutes from Town, the Ski Ranches has a more residential vibe. With its tree-lined streets and more approachable price points, you’ll find many locals live around here. And with good reason. Thanks to all of the breathtaking views from the quiet, close-knit neighborhood, buying a home in this area will feel just like...home.
Trout Lake - With a name like Trout Lake, we don’t have to tell you there’s great fishing to be had in this community. What we will tell you however, is rentals are more difficult to come by in this remote region. And that, of course, makes homeownership all the more alluring. Just about a 25-minute drive from Town, the area’s secluded location makes for heavy snowfall in the winter and signature scenery all year round.
