Pinecone Lodge, one of the most desirable ski lodges in the neighborhood of Arrowhead, towers above the trees that surround it. Steeply pitched rooftops dart toward the sky, creating gabled nooks that give off an imposing presence. The windows are both grand in design, with several floor-to-ceiling glass in some corners, as well as several smaller windows spread across on the smooth exterior walls and bordered by European-style wood shutters. While different, both styles give off a glow that invites you into this stunning building.
The single-level condo is equal parts cozy ski chalet and contemporary luxury. Step inside to find a wide open, bright, and airy open floor plan. The soft, muted tones of the walls are a backdrop for the stunning woodwork found throughout. Modern lighting illuminates the room from one end, while the natural light pouring in from the windows lights up the other.
Step onto the plush white carpet and feel the cushion under your feet. Imagine this comfort waiting for you after a long day on Vail’s famous and expansive backcountry terrain. It’s just one of the many touches that makes Pinecone Chalet the perfect Vail ski condo.
In the main living area, a large sofa sleeper, spruced with pillows depicting the wildlife in the trees beyond, sits opposite a large fireplace. The smooth white and creamy slabs of granite that surround the gas fireplace create a hearth where you can warm up on cold mountain nights. Above you is a magnificent mantle made of sturdy knotty pine, where more wildlife art adds a distinctive Western ambiance to this luxe living area.
A large oak table is fixed in front of the couch, and mirrors the earth tones found on the wall. In the corner, a cabinet made from the same fine wood as the mantle houses a TV. Perhaps what’s even better to watch, though, are the swaying tree tops just outside the massive window next to the couch. Look beyond the Swiss-style balcony railing to see the fluttering leaves of aspens, or the green and white of snow-covered pines that make up the Arrowhead neighborhood.
Step out to the wide balcony where two iron chairs with overstuffed cushions are set waiting for you. A small table sits between, and a gas grill in the corner makes this a great place to take in the mountain air.
A richly-stained dining room table with seating for four sits across the way. Here, families can dine with the warmth and flickering light of the gas fireplace only a few feet away. The dining room chairs are ornately carved and upholstered with textured rope seams and smooth taupe fabrics. Directly behind the dining table is the long breakfast bar, where two more can comfortably sit and still take part in the dinner table discussion. The large lantern and candle positioned on the bar continue the luxury-meets-the-West theme found throughout the home.
Step into the kitchen to discover counters topped with large rose-colored terracotta. The matted paint and muted tones give it a homey feel, while the recessed lighting above feels bright and energetic. A large double sink is set in the tiles, and sits across from an oven, electric stove, and microwave. Above the countertops, cabinets are artfully crafted from smooth grain wood, and a stainless steel dishwasher and refrigerator add a strong hint of modernity and sleekness to the traditional wood design. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you’ll need to cook for all guests, including a full set of high-quality knives.
The Master Bedroom is a place of white linens and open air. The bouquet of pine needles just outside your window perfumes the room, and the snug leather chair creaks beneath you as you sit. A king-size bed sprawls across the floor, and more knotty pine furniture with a soft finish edges the walls. A TV sits in perfect view from your cozy bed, rounding out the perfect evening of luxuriation. It’s the perfect private getaway in an exquisite Vail vacation home.
The attached Master Bathroom is a gilded wonder. A large white tub dominates the corner, and a tall stand-alone shower sits nearby. An elegant tile, made of a mix of salmon and seashell white, is displayed under foot. Two sinks, made with the same dazzling gold hardware as the tub, sit below a large vanity mirror for two.
The Guest Bedroom is as cozy and comfortable as the Master Bedroom is sumptuous and regal. Large wood posts create a rustic frame for the two twin beds, and a painting of Colorado’s elusive moose hangs in the corner. A large chest of drawers, assembled from various pines and finished with a fine grain sanding, will make both guests feel at home. A TV sits here, between both beds, for slumber parties late into the night, or the beds can be configured into a single King bed to accommodate older visitors. Just outside Guest Bedroom 2 is the Guest Bathroom, which has a sink and a shower/tub combination.
