Clean the World

An InvitedHome partner set on cleaning up the hospitality industry

A Partnership for Good

We all love to travel. In fact, here at InvitedHome, one of our core beliefs is that vacations are essential to the soul. But how do we reconcile our passion for new experiences, family getaways, and beautiful destinations with the blunt fact that travel can have a huge environmental impact?

The World Health Organization estimates hotels throw away 2 million partially used bars of soap every single day--730 million every year. Considering there are 1.8 billion people on the planet who don’t have access to proper sanitation, there seems to be a mismatch here. And considering many hotels are also throwing out small plastic bottles of unused liquid soap, the environmental effects can’t be overstated.

Thankfully, the organization Clean the World has come along to make travel a little cleaner. Participating hospitality companies send all of their discarded soaps to a few centers around the world, which then are recycled and distributed to where hygiene products are needed most.

To date, Clean the World has distributed more than 48 million bars of soap to more than 127 countries, and InvitedHome Telluride is thrilled to say we’re a part of this global health and sustainability movement.

For two years our Telluride team has been collecting partially used soap, shampoo, and conditioner from our luxury home rentals. We then sort and ship them off to Clean the World’s nearest processing center, where they’re then distributed around the world. We’re one of about 4,000 hospitality companies taking part in the initiative. All together, these partners have prevented more than 4,300 tons of waste from hitting landfills.

Since starting the program, InvitedHome has roughly 5,000 partially used bars of soap to Clean the World, and the whole team is ecstatic to be making a difference in the world.
