Boas, beads, masks, and music...it's time for the 2019 celebration of Mardi Gras! Wondering where the most exciting New Orleans-style celebration on the west side of the Mississippi is? Look no further than Breckenridge, Colorado. Breckenridge's carnivalesque festival begins on (Fat) Tuesday, March 5th, 2019. The Mardi Gras parade will commence at 4:30pm on Main Street and is sure to carry the party on well into the evening. After all, who says Louisiana gets to have all the fun? Here’s where and when to join in on the celebration, and how you can be in the best position to let the good times roll. Let's celebrate Rocky Mountain style!
Free drinks, music and gumbo ~ And so much more
Mardi Gras is an exciting tradition, and Breckenridge's all inclusive pre-parade event is no exception! Family friendly tailgating is an experience you won't want to miss out on. Warm up for the Mardi Gras parade by arriving around 2:30 pm on Main Street to enjoy Mardi Gras inspired foods from local vendors, free beads and live music. The pre-parade celebration will ensure the whole family locks down an optimal spot to experience the vibrant Mardi Gras parade, beginning at 4 pm on Main Street.
Now that you are properly adorned in plenty of purples, greens and golds, you’ll want to head over somewhere along blocks of 100-400 on South Main Street for optimal viewing. The parade begins at 4:30pm, but you’ll want to arrive a bit earlier than that. Keep an eye out for the perfect spot along the fenced-in route to catch as many beads as possible as they’re launched from the various ornate, local floats streaming by. Simply spectating not enough? Inquire about participating with your own float here. The top three floats are gifted cash prizes of up to $500!
Free Post-Parade Concert
The parade may be over ~ But the party certainly is not
Once the parade is complete, you’ll want to make a beeline to the Riverwalk Center at 150 W. Adams Avenue to party with the King and Queen. It’s here, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, where you will also enjoy a free concert by the Hazel Miller Band as you feast on traditional dishes of New Orleans like king cakes and savory gumbos. Don't forget to wear your colorful costume! Breckenridge is known to host some of the most vibrantly designed Madri Gras inspired outfits. Still not convinced? Well we aren't done yet.
