Why You Should Celebrate Mardi Gras in Breckenridge
At the end of February ~ The real party begins
The best New Orleans-style party this side of the Mississippi, Mardi Gras in Breckenridge begins on (Fat) Tuesday, February 28th, 2017, in the early afternoon on Main Street...and is sure to carry on well into the evening. After all, who says Louisiana gets to have all the fun? Here’s where and when to join in on the celebration, and just how you can be in the best position to let the good times roll.
Music, merchants, and merriment ~ And so much more
Start the day off in style by joining your fellow festival goers as you gather at Main Street Station Plaza for the Breckenridge Mardi Gras Parade warm-up celebration at 2:30pm. A joyous, family-friendly tradition, you will be treated to plenty of lively music, great merchandise deals, and enough beads to last you throughout the day. But we have a feeling you’ll want more...
Now that you are properly adorned in plenty of purples, greens and golds, you’ll want to head over to somewhere along blocks 100-400 on South Main Street for optimal viewing pleasure. The parade begins at 4:30pm, but you’ll want to get there a little earlier than that. That’s because you’ll want to locate the perfect spot along the fenced-in route to catch as many beads as possible as they’re launched from the various ornate, local floats streaming by. Simply spectating not enough? Inquire about participating with your own float here. There are even cash prizes for the top three floats!
Free Post-Parade Concert
The parade may be over ~ But the party certainly is not
Once the parade is complete, you’ll want to make a beeline to the Riverwalk Center at 150 W. Adams Avenue to party with the King and Queen. It’s here, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, where you will also enjoy a free concert by the Lowdown Brass Band as you snack on traditional treats of New Orleans like king cakes and savory gumbos. Of course, you’ll need something to wash those down. Luckily for you the concert is complemented by the Paulaner Salvator Festival, a traditional tapping and sampling of the first strong beer of the season.
Breckenridge Mardi Gras is a vacationer’s perfect storm for celebrating the emergence of spring, while still delighting in all the exciting mountain-based activities available only in the winter. And it all culminates on Fat Tuesday, February 28th in downtown Breckenridge. So admit it. You’ve been searching for an excuse to sneak in one more Breck vacation before all the snow is gone. And we are of the mind that you now have a genuine one.
