6 National Parks to See with InvitedHome
At InvitedHome, guests can choose from beautiful luxury vacation rentals all over the country, but it’s not only the homes that are breathtaking. We make a point to choose markets with staggering natural beauty, and in many cases, that means there’s a U.S. National Park nearby.
While you’ll have to do some serious road tripping to cross all 58 national parks off your list, there are six within a 2-hour drive (and often much closer) of InvitedHome destinations. Below are all the national parks worth seeing if you’re staying in any of our Colorado, Santa Barbara, Jackson Hole, or Maui homes.
Located just off the coast of Santa Barbara, Channel Islands National Park is a haven for rare species of plants and animals, a geological wonder, and still readily accessible. Enjoy kayaking, hiking, scuba diving, and observing wildlife in a truly unique corner of the country. We also detail a trip to Channel Islands National Park on our list of the 5 Best Daytrips from Santa Barbara.
How to get there:
Set on a hill just up from the beach, Pacific Gardens gives you views of the ocean and the Channel Islands from your resort-style private pool. Click here to check for availability.
Seaside Heights is another one of our many Santa Barbara vacation rentals with amazing views of the ocean and the Channel Islands beyond. This luxury home has exceptional outdoor seating spaces, including a covered porch with comfy outdoor furniture.
Enter Rocky Mountain National Park and you’ll be surrounded by 415 square miles of some of the country’s finest natural beauty. Soaring peaks, alpine wildflowers, untouched powder for snowshoeing, and endless hiking trails await, making this an unforgettable day trip any time of year.
Due to the alpine terrain, getting to the park can be difficult. The famous Trail Ridge Road closes in mid-October and doesn’t open until after Memorial Day, and even after that, snowstorms are always a possibility. During the summer, the drives are easier, but still allow two hours from any of our destinations.
Here are a few homes perfect for a Rocky Mountain National Park experience.
At 7,500 square feet, this Breckenridge vacation home has eight bedrooms and two additional sleeping areas that can accommodate up to 24 guests. If you're planning a corporate retreat or family reunion, a jaunt to Rocky Mountain National Park might be the perfect day trip for your group.
Among our finest homes in Steamboat, The Valley Vista has sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, rivers, and waterfalls. If you can't make it into Rocky Mountain National Park from Steamboat, there's plenty of outdoor activities to explore in this area.
Serene, secluded, and utterly alluring, Grand Teton National Park is home to the namesake mountain range that attracts so many to ski, hike, camp, and fish. And with all our Jackson Hole vacation rentals only 30 minutes from the park, you can experience all its natural wonder with your own luxury home to return to.

Grand Outlook has been praised by architects for its unique design and hailed by guests as an extraordinary mountain getaway. Imagine exploring the rugged terrain of Grand Teton National Park, and within 20 minutes, arriving back to your private hot tub to rejuvenate for another day.
Enjoy a refined stay in downtown Jackson, where you can head to the mountains by day and explore this iconic town's best restaurants and bars by night. The Jackson Pearl is only half an hour from Grand Teton National Park, and with two bedrooms and an additional sleeping area, can accommodate six guests.
A stark landscape that resembles a remote planet more than our own, Haleakalā National Park on the east side of Maui should not be missed. Here you’ll find species of plants that don’t exist anywhere else on earth, and a mountain summit where you can watch the sunrise from high above the clouds.
The park entrance is about 1.5 hours from our luxury vacation rentals in the Honua Kai resort and others along the Ka’anapali Coast.
Below are two homes that would make an excellent home base for exploring this mind-bending preserve of coastal and mountain land.
Just one block from the beach is Seeing Polu, a gorgeous Maui condo with ocean views. After you've spent the day exploring Haleakalā National Park, return to your seaside oasis, where you can relax by the pool or head to the shore to finish out the day.
As a part of the Honua Kai Resort, you'll have access to amazing luxury amenities like the several pools, lush walking gardens, and plenty of onsite food and drinks. The Nunui looks over the wondrous West Maui mountains and is a short walk from the famous Ka'anapali Beach.
One of the deepest canyons in the country, Black Canyon gets its name from the low levels of sunlight that can make it to the canyon floor. It’s a world of spires and crags, where the hiking is hard and dangerous, but the views always worth it.
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is most easily accessed from our homes in Telluride, about 1.5 hours away. While Telluride certainly has breathtaking beauty all its own that’s worth exploring, if you’re looking for a day trip to hit a national park, this is a great option.
If you're thinking of visiting the Black Canyon, check out these two Telluride homes.
A quintessential mountain cabin on the outside and a world of luxury on the inside, Narrowleaf Lookout is the ultimate Telluride retreat. Located in the sumptuous Mountain Village neighborhood, this 4-story home towers above the surrounding trees, offering unparalleled views of the San Juan mountain range.
A true luxury estate in every way, Mountainsong Hollow emanates classic design and alpine grandeur. At 6,000 square feet, it can sleep up to 10 guests, and is built on a ridge to provide stunning views from all around the home.
Mesa Verde National Park is extremely remote, and as such, it’s about two hours and 15 minutes from Telluride. However, for anyone interested in rich history and incredible geology, it’s worth the visit. The area is home to about 600 cliff dwelling sites that date back to the year 600, as well as 5,000 other notable archaeological sites.
