Overview

Staying in Big Sky

Rising out of the Madison Range beneath the iconic, 11,166-foot horn of Lone Peak, Big Sky began as a sprawling cattle ranching territory before native Montanan and legendary news anchor Chet Huntley envisioned it as a world-class ski destination in the early 1970s. Sitting about 45 miles south of Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport along the dramatic Gallatin River canyon, it pairs untamed Northern Rockies wilderness with seamless access for travelers heading into Southwest Montana.

Above the valley, Big Sky Resort boasts some of the most expansive and alpine terrain in North America, offering over 5,800 acres, 4,350 vertical feet, and 300-plus runs. The high-alpine experience is anchored by the state-of-the-art Lone Peak Tram—sweeping skiers straight to the summit chute entry points—while swift, heated 8-seat bubble chairs like Ramcharger and Swift Current keep base-to-peak laps effortless. Next door, the private slopes of Moonlight Basin frame the mountain’s northern flank, while the lower Meadow Village offers a quieter, pine-scented mountain-town pace.

Big Sky lives up to its name across all four seasons. As the western gateway to Yellowstone National Park, summer brings world-class fly fishing on the blue-ribbon Gallatin River, endless alpine hiking, down-valley golf, and downhill biking along Lone Peak's lower trails. As winter returns, the landscape transforms back into an uncrowded haven for deep snow and big-mountain lines.

Our collection of Big Sky luxury vacation rentals spans from slopeside chalets in Mountain Village to secluded timbered estates overlooking Moonlight Basin. In between sit mountain-modern retreats in the Meadow Village, private cabins nestled along the Gallatin River, and expansive compounds in exclusive alpine enclaves. Every home is privately owned, thoughtfully selected, and cared for by our local team, ensuring your stay is seamless from the moment you arrive.
