Enjoy a little slice of Telluride history while still enjoying all the creature comforts you could wish for on your next vacation. That’s because The Historic Thompson House can be traced all the way back to the early 20th century. Located in the town’s historic district, the Colorado Cultural Resource Survey tells the tale of the Thompson family settling here from Finland in the early 1900s. It was then kept in the family all the way through the 1970s, at which point, new owners continually updated it for the modern world to marvel. That now includes you.

First, you’ll be just a short walk from all the best shops and restaurants in town, and be in the center of all the action during the town’s active festival season. Not to mention, you're only a short walk to the Gondola for easy ski access. During the winter season, gaze out at the mountain from your private hot tub and you’ll see the small specks of skiers coming down the slopes. We’re sure you’ll soon be joining them. Or just hang out on your patio, take in the scenic atmosphere, and wonder what it was like at the turn of the century. Then head inside, turn on the big flatscreen TV, and snuggle up to the fireplace before going to bed in one of its four bedrooms – three with kings and one with a captain's bunk (plus a sleeper sofa).

The home’s open layout also boasts 3.5 baths, plenty of comfortable seating, and modern kitchen appliances even the pickiest chef would admire. Downstairs you’ll find another great area for gathering, with its own complete kitchen, dining area, and quick access to those magnificent mountain views. Yes, for a small taste of Telluride history with a giant splash of modern amenities, get the best of both worlds at The Historic Thompson House.

Complete Guide to Telluride

This tiny town is known for big mountains and large music festivals. But what many may not know is that it’s the maverick, wild-west attitude of the folks in town that makes Telluride so special. And why people always come back for more.

Telluride Film Festival
The Telluride Film Festival (TFF) made its debut amidst the majestic San Juan Mountains in 1973. Telluride had always been a scene for cinematic legends, harking back to the days when such stars as Houdini, the Marx Brothers, and Sarah Bernhardt ...journeyed to Telluride to entertain miners in the Sheridan Opera House. Today, that very same Sheridan Opera House is still one of three formal venues of the TFF (the others include Chuck Jones’ Cinema and the Werner Herzog Theater). And the stars that flock to this Telluride festival have only gotten progressively bigger. (see less)

Telluride: Southwestern Colorado's Modern Playground
November 11, 2016 Many resorts brag about how their town is a state of mind, not a place; Telluride seems to have taken that concept to heart. By want of its location, it really couldn’t be any other way. It’s certainly one of the most remote among ...Colorado’s major ski resorts, located in the state’s southwestern corner 65 miles from Montrose, the nearest major airport with commercial service (although limited flights into Telluride’s own lofty airstrip will resume this winter). It’s well over 300 miles from Denver. The town itself is located in a box canyon, a narrow cul-de-sac with a flat valley floor and thousand-foot high walls on three sides. Bridal Veil Falls – a scenic attraction in summer and one of the nation’s most difficult multi-pitch ice climbs in winter – is at the head of the valley. Free cross-country ski trails traverse the valley floor, making a pleasant alternative to downhill skiing for an afternoon. (see less)
