Let’s take a step back in time for a moment. We’re headed to a beach home that harkens back to the old California beach lifestyle at Miramar Beach. It’s a place where the charm of the train tracks on one side of a home is only elevated when you see the stunning beauty of the Pacific with views of the Channel Islands on the other. Inside, the natural light shines bright on the bohemian lifestyle with intricate pottery, classic photos, and old-time surfboards making good use of the high ceilings as they hang across all three floors. There’s just a different vibe around here. And you’ll know it when you feel it. It’s something you just get. And you only get it here.

Now let’s jump to the modern day, though strangely, you’re still in that special home. Head upstairs first. Because the views are always best from the top. This upper level consists of a bedroom with an elevated king-size captain’s bed. Lie down for a bit. No one will notice. There’ an adjacent bathroom with a single sink and shower stall. The full, modern kitchen features the latest appliances like a Bertazzoni stove and Miele dishwasher. And for those looking to relax even more than a little bit, the living area has two sofas that also double as Tempurpedic twin size beds. This is how you truly maximize space. And when it comes time to breathe it all in, simply open the glass doors, where you’ll find a small deck with spiral staircase leading all the way down to the sand for that quick escape. Pour yourself a glass of wine, because you’ll be spending plenty of time here. This is all about a relaxing retreat. A way to escape. Just don’t forget to look up. The curved glass roof is one of the most unique features of the upper level, as all the natural light that emanates from every room provides such a special feeling of warmth. We suppose the radiant, heated floors on every level help a little, too.

From the upper level, walk down a few stairs lined with the aforementioned unique artwork and old coral to the middle level, which is the main shared space. The fully stocked main kitchen has the same top of the line appliances and a dining table that can seat up to 8. The kids will especially get a kick out of the tall leather chairs, but the adults are encouraged to take advantage as well. The L-shaped sofa faces the ocean, just in case you’re not staring at the 43” flat screen with a BluRay player and extensive cable package. Not bad for a day indoors. But you’ll eventually want to head outside to see all the dolphins, seals, birds, and occasionally whales enjoy their special place just yards from the shore.

The lower level hosts the two other bedrooms, and they both come equipped with queen size beds. Yes, the vibe is present down here as well. Great for the kids as the first bedroom leads into the second bedroom, and they share a bathroom and shower as well. But this home is all about the beach. The experience. The overall feel. Truth is, we all deserve this kind of vacation at some point. That point is now. So whether you’re playing in the ocean, exploring the tide pools with the kids, or just listening to the ocean as you stroll along the beach, at Miramar Dolphin Den, you’ll soon realize what you’ve stumbled on in this tiny little cove...just might be the best kept secret in California.

Wish we were still there!!!

My husband and two children (8yrs and 2yrs) spent a wonderful week at the Miramar Dolphin Den. We had never been to this beach before and were so happy to have experienced it. Its a private beach where your dogs can run off leash and the waves are perfect for kids to play in the waves and boogie board. We woke up to watching paddle boarders, swimmers and dolphins from the 3 level ocean view of the house. It can't get better than being in a house right on the beach. The home looks quaint but is actually very spacious and manageable. The decorating is fun and eclectic. We really appreciated the craftsmanship. The stairs were a concern, but the kids managed great. The outdoor spiral staircase has a gate on every level which helps. And the inside staircase has railings which is the one the kids used. The house comes equipped with everything you need. There were parking spaces available for guests to come and visit which are very convenient. And the house is very close to all the restaurants, grocery store and shops in Montecito. One morning we all took a short walk along the beach and had breakfast at the Four Seasons. The experience with Invited Home was easy and hassle free. We truly do wish we were still there!

Santa Barbara Travel Guide
