Stars Will Shine ~ At The 2018 SBIFF

33rd Santa Barbara Film Festival

January 31st ~ February 10th, 2018

The stars come out at night and their talents shine bright at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF). More than 90,000 fellow film-loving attendees descend on the beautiful downtown area as it welcomes guests from all over the world. It’s 11 full-packed days celebrating both independent and global cinema, with celebrity tributes, exclusive screenings, and educational symposiums and seminars that attracts film fans of all ages and all tastes.

Why Santa Barbara?

And Not Hollywood ~ Santa Barbara Was Once The Epicenter Of Film

What you may not know is that once upon a time, Santa Barbara was the geographical epicenter of the American film industry. In the early 1900s, when silent films started to soar in popularity, Santa Barbara was actually home to the largest movie studio in the world. Today, the area’s cinematic legacy lives on through one of the nation’s premiere film festivals. And it’s a sight to behold.

Awards and Notable Figures

What Makes The Festival ~ So Special

At the Santa Barbara Film Festival, you'll be sure to see stars, whether they're winning film awards or simply enjoying the atmosphere. So who will you see? Well, let’s start with last year’s recipient of the Maltin Modern Master Award. Recently renamed in tribute of the well-known film critic and the event’s original moderator – Leonard Maltin – past winners have included Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, Clint Eastwood, Cate Blanchett and Peter Jackson. Last year, the SBIFF was proud to honor the Academy-nominated, storied career of none other than Johnny Depp.

Does The Fun Stop There?

Of course not ~ Opening-Night Is Glamour & Glitz That’s Not To Be Missed

The opening-night, film-themed gala is a lesson in glamour and glitz that’s not to be missed. Throughout the week, you can then take in a seminar, mingle with filmmakers and industry professionals, or grab a bite to eat (and maybe a drink or two) at the Festival Pavilion. Maybe you want to sit in on one of the many exclusive directing, writing, or producing panels.

Kid Friendly

Have The Kids With You ~ Great!

They’ll especially enjoy AppleBox. It’s a weekend-morning, family-oriented program for movie enthusiasts of all ages. And if the kiddies do get restless, there is plenty of free popcorn and refreshments to keep them happily occupied.

What Else, You Ask?

As If All That Isn’t Enough ~ There Are Plenty Of Complimentary Activities To Boot

The SBIFF is proud to partner closely with the entire Santa Barbara community that gratefully hosts this celebration each year. As such, they help provide plenty of complimentary activities and events outside of your traditional film festival offerings. Watch one of the daily free screenings. Students young and old can enjoy the 10-10-10 competitions and Youth CineMedia programs. And true historians will just adore Super Silent Sunday, which showcases classic silent films of days gone by. Just put those cellphones on vibrate.

All this spectacular entertainment and more can be enjoyed by heading to Santa Barbara at the beginning of February, 2017. You certainly don’t need to be a film buff to partake in all the fun. But it certainly doesn’t hurt. Find out more and order your tickets today at the official website. FIN.
